SR: Raub Ritter

Raub Ritter during the start phase
Raub Ritter is one of the games I bought in Essen 2005. I had only played a couple of two-player games before. Today, we gave it another try in a three player format. And my reserved opinion of the game has now improved a little bit. I admire it's simplicity and it's game mechanisms. The rules are so so simple but yet the game is pretty deep. Rüdiger Dorn has really designed a game which on the one hand is so elegant and abstract and on the other hand has an atmospheric theme that fits right on the spot. It find this frightening but I really upgraded the score from a 5 to a 7 on BGG.
This game was the first for Raven and Shelak. At first, it appeared to me as if they were having the same problems with the game that I had in the beginning. The rules were so simple the whole tactical aspects did not become apparent. For me it took a few games to get the mechanisms and start to develop a strategy. And I even ejoyed the process. I will try to bring the game to the table a little bit more often to see how much I really like the game in the long run. We will see. For now, you can have a quick look at the game's finale.
