Wild Wild West (English translation)

Deserter
Desertor event from WIld Wild West

Finally I got around to translating Wild Wild West. Wild Wild West, designed and copyrighted by Juanjo Roig and José Carlos de Diego, is currently available in Spanish only. This is my attempt at making this inofficial Ticket to Ride-extension available to a greater audience. It has been a lot of work, so if you like it, please leave a comment. Even better if you have suggestions for improvement. If this is accepted well, I might consider doing a German translation as well. But enough, let's move on to the rules...

Game preparations
In addition to the original Ticket to Ride rules, the 30 Wild Wild West event cards are shuffled at the beginning of the game. Three cards are distributed to each player. Each player reviews his event cards and decides which ones to keep. A player must keep at least one card but may keep two or all three. The returned event cards are put underneath their corresponding stack. The event stack is put next to the stack with the destination tickets. The players keep their event cards secret until they are brought into play or until they are revealed at the end of the game.

Changes to the action Draw Destination Tickets
The rules for the action to draw destination tickets are changed as follows: If a player decides to draw new destination tickets, he additionally draws three event cards. He can choose the cards he wants to keep but must keep at least one destination ticket and one event card. Of course, he can choose to keep two or more of each. Unused cards are put underneath the corresponding stack.

How to play event cards?
Unless the text on the event card indicates it's effects is put into place at the end of the game, it will cost one action to play an event card. Thus, If an event card is played, the player may neither draw waggon cards, nor claim a route nor draw destination tickets/event cards. Some events have additional restrictions when brought into play. Any event card which was played is kept face-up on the table by the player who played it. The card is not returned to the stack and therefore cannot be drawn again.

Note, event cards may not be played during the final turn, i.e. if one player is left with only 2 or less waggons, the event cards which need to be played during the game become useless.

A player may have any number of event cards on his hand (or in the game) at any moment. Thus, there is no maximum number of events which can be in hand or in play. However, each event card has a value printed in the upper left corner. We shall refer to this value under the term event points. If the total value of all of a player's event cards exceeds 12 event points, then the player loses 20 points at the end of the game (during the final scoring turn when the tickets are evaluated).

The cards
The Midnight Express (1 event point)
Double the value of any of your completed Destination tickets worth 6 points or less, at game's end.

Casey Jones (1 event point)
This card is revealed at game's end. If you are the first player with 2 or less trains score 10 additional points. Otherwise, lose 5 points.

Phineas T. Barnum (0 event points)
When checking against the limit of 12 event points, this card subtracts 5 event points from your total event points score.

Dangerous Merchandise (1 event point)
This event is automatically revealed when a yet unused double-route is claimed. Your waggons are put in zig-zag to indicate that the second route may not be used. This card may only be used on double-routes.

Telephone Line (1 event point)
When you play this card, if your routes connect Chicago and Boston, draw 4 waggon cards from the regular stack (or draw 5 cards from the discard pile). You will only be permitted to keep any locomotives discovered. It is assumed that a city is under your control if a train of your color is located adjacent to each city.

Amateur (1 event point)
This event is played as an action at the beginning of one of your turns. Discard any number of waggon cards from your hand and replace them by the same number drawn from the open drawing stack (one locomotive maximum) or from the discard pile.

Philantropist (2 event points)
This event is played as an action at the beginning of one of your turns to increase the number of trains in your reserve by two. Use the two spare trains from the original game box.

Gold Rush (2 event points)

Ezekiel Stannage (Skyjacker) (2 event points)
This event is played as an action at the beginning of one of your turns. Draw 5 destination tickets. Discard two of them and eliminate three from this game.

Victoria Station (3 event points)
This event is played as an action at the beginning of one of your turns. Draw one card for each coastal city to which you connected at least one train of your color. The restriction of drawing only one locomotive openly still applies.

Flood (3 event points)
This event is played as an action at the beginning of one of your turns and affects all players until the end of the game. All locomotive cards become blue waggons and all gray routes become blue routes.

Purple Rain (3 event points)
This event is played as an action at the beginning of one of your turns. Purple routes that you completed score double points (gray routes do not count, even if completed with purple cards).

White Christmas (3 event points)

Emperor Norton I. (Emperor of California) (4 event points)

Commodore Cornelio Venderbuilt (4 event points)
This event is played as an action at the beginning of one of your turns. Name a waggon color. Each player must give you up to two waggon cards of that color (if available). If the player does not own cards of that type he must reveal his hand.

Diosloyal Competition (4 event points)
This event is revealed at the end of the game. Select one destination ticket from an opponent which you have completed. Score the points instead of your opponent.

Anarchist (4 event points)
At the beginning of one of your turns, this event uses an action to be put into play. While the anarchist remains with a player, this player may not claim routes. Use an action to pass the Anarchist to another player. A player may discard the Anarchist by discarding all waggon cards from hand. The player holding the Anarchist at the end of the game loses 15 points.

Buffallo Bill (Explorer, hunter and actor) (4 event points)

This event is played as an action at the beginning of one of your turns. Destroy a completed gray route between two cities. This also applies to double routes. Players who claimed points for this route may keep these points. If Lovelorn is still held at the end of the game, the player loses 15 points.

Hobo (5 event points)
This event is revealed at the end of the game. Use an opponent's connection to complete one or more of your tickets. The original proprietor of the connection may also make use of this route.

Hello José and Juanjo. Thanks for leaving your comment. I have already downloaded the English version and it is great. (I recommend registering on ludere.ual.es/bsk - it's a great site, even if you don't speak Spanish)

Thanks for all the time and energy you have put into this expanstion. It is really great!

Can someone fix the Casey Jones card so it says "lose 5 points" instead of "loose 5 points"?

I.e. Look "Loose" up here: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=loose

It has no relation to to the word "Lose" which is the word intended.

Replaced "loose" with "lose" as requested, here.

Sorry for the mistake. Maybe José can update the PDF-file, too (actually this should be the first place to make such a change)...
