GLA #3: Preparations for Essen 2005

Geek List Aggregator #3 deals with the upcoming game fair at Essen 2005. Probably, this GLA will not provide much enduring value but Essen is the topic of the week. So for the sake of providing current information...

Oh, wait --- before we come to the geek list, let me point you to some material that has/will become available in the blogosphere. Since this will be relevant in the days and weeks to come and also give additional context to this GLA I decided to include some links into this post:

Personally, I will only be able to attend Saturday morning plus the full last day on Sunday. This is really a shame as I live in Düsseldorf. This means Essen is only 20 - 30 minutes away and I would loooove to blog more on the fair. But since taking a holiday is currently totally out of the question and opening hours are ridiculous (exhibits closing at 6 p.m.) what can I do? The answer is obvious: aggregate GeekLists...

GeekList #9465:Essen 2005 Canonical List by Eric Martin
Currently, the list contains 74 games which will be released during Spiel 2005. Most games on the list have been commented on already. Both the links to the games and the comments make this a wonderful preparatory tool, and also interesting for post-processing. Of course, one cannot miss the Gamefest preview on Essen 2005 to prepare. If you speak German, Spielbox provides an excellent All-You-Need-Guide plus an RSS feed with all new games.

GeekList #10803: Rare Essen games 2005 by Anttoni Huhtala
For the game collector or other type of geek it is always interesting to see some of the rarities. Anttoni has compiled an interesting list of things, which might be difficult to get, e.g. Shear Panic (only 550 copies), three Age of Steam expansions (The Moon [finally], The Bay Area, and Reunion Island), Havoc, Gods plus A Company of Knights set for Shadows over Camelot (painted SoC figures). I am pretty sure I know someone who will want to have these, right?

GeekList #5034: Geek Speak Episode 7 - Aldie, Derk, Rick Thornquist, and Greg Schloesser (Essen) by Michael Fitch
While you are travelling to Essen you may want to listen to GeekSpeak podcast #7 (pt 1&2). This episode deals with last years fair, Essen 2004. The GeekList includes all (?) games discussed. I was astonished how many great games were introduced last year. Let's keep our fingers crossed for 2005...

Well, this was GLA#3. I can already think of a possible topic for GLA #4: Essen 2005 Aftermath. But this depends on whether we get additional post-exhibition lists. So, if you have something interesting, don't forget to use the tag Essen (or Essen 2005).
