Depeche Mode: Enjoy the Silence Re-interpreted

DM

Depeche Mode :: Enjoy The Silence 04
I just bought my first song at iTunes: the winner is: Enjoy the Silence 04 - Re-interpreted by Mike Shinoda. Scheduled for an official release on October, 18th 2004 the song is already played on radio stations in Germany. I heard it earlier yesterday morning and immediately liked it. Obviously, this is naturelich caused by Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park (Vocals, Beats+Samples, Keyboards, Guitar). And also a little bit by Depeche Mode. The song is incredible. I bet you'll hear it soon and like it as much as I do. It has this very familiar Linkin Park/Mike Shinoda-like samples and vibe behind it. IMHO it gains a lot of power through this! A definite recommendation not only for DeMo / LP fans...

The Village

The Village Copyright Touchstone Pictures

What a surprising plot. A wonderful movie written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, who also directed The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. Similar to The Sixth Sense, the color red plays a significant role in this suspense thriller which is not quite what I had expected after seeing the preview trailer. The Village is not at all about horror, it is about people who have gone through some very disturbing experiences taking some uncommon actions. More will not be said. Go see it yourself - Naturelich recommends this movie: 8 of 10.

Cosmo Bowling

After a loooong time, I went bowling again... Yesterday. All my troubles seemed so far away...

The whole show started off with two strikes in a row! The venue was a large fitness and sporting complex: Cosmo Bowling. This was definitely beginner's luck as the rest of the evening was rather mediocre - with respect to the bowling. There was plenty of beer and loadsa fun: Naturelich and a few additional loosers took it rather easily while others were really anxious to get some great scores. Next time I plan on drinking even more beer - which makes Kung Fu Master even more shaky hitting plenty of zeros in a row... ;)

iPod

I just got a new toy: Apple's iPod! IT stores 40 gigs of music - which is just about the space I needed. The iPod has great acoustics compared to my previous mp3 hardware-players. It integrates neatly with car audio systems (although this is still pending). And it's fun. Although you can't get Metallica at the iTunes store...

Longhorn

The next release of MS Windows is currently in development. As this was planned as a major major re-release of the world's most popular operating system. Non-Microsoft developers have put up Longhornblogs to feed us with more information. Microsoft has obviously released information on the product. Visit MSDN for more details. It's very interesting to see comments of how the release schedule was recently adjusted. Some say Microsoft is coping with major challenges when developing the new Windows file system (WinFS). The implications for application developers will be severe and are not so easy to predict. This, I will leave to the guys at Longhornblogs who have Naturelich a far better understanding of things. But it's interesting nonetheless...

Onto the history of video games

Naturelich has participated in the ultimate psychology test. Now, it is official. If Naturelich were a pre-1985 video-game character, he would be Kung Fu Master. Here is the official certificate:

What Video Game Character Are You? I am Kung Fu Master.I am Kung Fu Master.I like to be in control of myself. I dislike crowds, especially crowds containing people trying to kill me. Even though I always win, I prefer to avoid fights if possible.
(If I were not Kung Fu Master I would be a Gauntlet Adventurer.)

Check this to get to know yourself better: What Video Game Character Are You?

Las Vegas season 2 started

Season 2 of Las Vegas has started. Visit NBC.com for more information on the new season, a music video, an episode guide and much much more. I can't wait to see the first eps. They started off with an ep called Have you Ever Seen the Rain in which Danny returns home from war.

Naturelich back online

Finally - I made it. Naturelich is back online again. Got a DSL modem as a present from one of my colleagues at work (true friendship, brother). Savior of Naturelich's soul. I also just recently downloaded Norton Internet Security with Antispam and Antivirus - cool stuff. Now, I am not only online but also better protected than ever before. What a day. See you in a bit...

Broken DSL modem

A few days ago, my DSL modem broke down. As you can imagine, these are troubling times, my friend. Naturelich without a DSL modem is like waves without a surfboard. It's just not the same. Well, a colleague has promised to bring me his tomorrow, so hopes are getting up again. For the time being, expect only limited updates to this site.... :-((

Upgrade to Business Class...

On the flight back we had to go via Charlotte and Munich. As we were rather late in Orlando, they did not check us in for the two flights still to come. So we had to hurry to the Lufthansa gate in Charlotte. After my colleague asked for seats with additional room for Naturelich's long legs, I added "We wouldn't mind being upgraded to business class either..." Having tried this earlier, I knew the chances of success were slim, but this time - she did it. "Gentlemen, with this coupon you will get a free drink in our lounge. I have upgraded you guys to business class and I hope you enjoy your flight!" --- "Ohhhh, thank you very much" - suppressing some inappropriate jumps through the air! She did it. I like to believe, it must have been my charm, but, anyway...

Off to the lounge we went, enjoying Heineken's there and a wonderful and relaxing flight on the way home - with enough leg space...

Hurricane Ivan

According to the weather forecas, hurricane Ivan is probably not to hit the Orlando area in full. Some rain and thunderstorms are expected. Those are not part of the main hurricane but rather inflicted indirectly by the hurricane. So probably no need to worry for our return flights on Wednesday noon...

Bahama Breeze

Today came to an end in the Bamaha Breeze bar in Orlando with dinner plus a few Mexican Negro Modelo beers. 100% exhausted -- the only thing remaining is to get a good night's sleep...

Outlet Shopping

Today, I spend half the days shopping at the Premium Outlet center in Orlando. Naturelich, a very successful afternoon. I got hold of two new pairs of shoes, four shirts and two pullovers. The good news: now, there is no need for the regular Naturelich autumn shopping event - or at least I can do it much faster when I'm back...

Universal Studios, Orlando

UniversalStudiosFlorida1.jpg

We went to Universal Studios Florida today.

A day in Universal Studios in Orlando. It's been quite a while since I have been to a themepark. Let's see, which ones did we see:

Germany

  • Heidepark (Soltau), 1993
  • Phantasialand (Brühl, close to Cologne), 1998/9 (?)
  • Warner Bros. Movie World (Bottrop Kirchhellen), 1996

    France

  • Euro Disney (Paris), 1996

    USA

  • Universal Studios (Los Angeles), 1996

So, to sum it up, 1996 seems to have been my most active themepark year. Man, that was 8 years ago. Well, now it is 2004 and for half a day we enjoyed quite a number of attractions.

    Hulk rollercoaster:

the most incredible thing! Just when you think 'Okay, now it is going up - better get prepared' you get accelerated to super-speed. Next thing you know is being almost in freefall for a very looong time. Upside-down, loopings, great turns - naturelich: it's excellent.

    OakRestaurantUniversalStudios.jpg

Lunch at the Enchanted Oak Restaurant:
Soup, salad, corn on the cob prepares your stomach for the things to come...

    Jurassic Park ride:
I had seen this ride in Universal Studios, Los Angeles, so I preferred someone else to sit first row. Goood decision, as they got soakingly wet. However, during the last fall, I lost my cap, a rather irreplacable goodie from Africa. The lost&found didn't have it either. Thus, I bought the photo (for more than 20 USD-argh) showing me and the cap for the last time.

    DragonRide.jpg

    Dragon ride:
This coaster was brilliant as well. Your legs are free in the air, the fall-off protection on your shoulders is well invested moneys. Loopings, upside down trips, fast changes in direction makes your stomach go in cirles. We all didn't feel tooo hungry after this one...

    Spiderman ride:
This ride rocked as well. It's a 3D ride where you follow Spiderman on one of tis adventures. Explosions, illusions of your car being in free fall, speed, fast turns and some very shaky pieces made this a favorite as well...

Although the day was quite expensive, it also was tons of fun.

    Arrival in Orlando

After a long long flight via Frankfurt and Washington Dulles we finally arrived only one hour late in Orlando. Next thing was to get a car. Welcome to service-country: the car was already waiting for us, we just had to get it and go. If I think of the time and trouble it takes to rent a car in Germany it was lightning speed. We then made our way to the hotel. The Peabody Orlando is magnificent! Great rooms, nice conference area and the greatest feature is complimentary wireless LAN. So, this is why I can write to you now...

After a short five-minute break, we went into a bar where we enjoyed some beers along with some chicken wings and delicious prawns. Totally tired we went to bed and enjoyed a good 8 hours of sleep.

    About Naturelich - Pt. 2

Today, I was asked who this Naturelich guy is. Well, I can't tell you directly, but I can give you some hints what the real name is in different languages:

  • in Ninja: Hansuke Chieko-san (not reproducible)
  • in Smurf : Pimpin' Smurf (reproducible - what did I do to deserve that????)
  • in Elvish: Finrod Telemmaitë (reproducible)
  • in Hobbit tongue: Mungo Underhill of Frogmorton (reproducible)

    Visiting Orlando, FL

I will be on a trip to Orlando, Florida from September 10th to 16th. Our residence in the themepark capital of the world is the Peabody hotel not too far away from the major attractions. On Saturday, we have scheduled a visit to Universal Studios Florida. I hope to take part in the Shrek-4D, Terminator 2:3D Battle Across Time, MIB: Alien Attack, Jaws, Twister and so many more. The rest of the week is packed with business events and conference organization. Looking 4wd to this...

    Tall Buildings

Today I found an interesting project on the web which is hosted at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, NY: Tall Buildings allows you to browse through 25 tall buildings designed within the last 10 years. The tour includes two proposals for the new World Trade Center (New York City) , the 7 S Dearborn (Chicago), Kowloon Station (Hong Kong) and many more. It is absolutely spectacular! Be sure to download the Flash 6 plugin before...

Metallica vidz from Auf Schalke, Germany

Today I was visiting the MetonTour website and discovered that they have actually some live footage from their concert Auf Schalke. The concert took place earlier this year and was Naturelich visited by yours truly (and friends & family). The band played Metal Militia for the first time in Europe - since 12th December 1984. And guyz: MetOnTour is the place to find it - other than LiveMetallica.com. Even more strangely, a pregnant woman approaches Jaymz Hetfield during the Meet'n'Greet Metallica section to actually get her stomach signed. I guess being a heavy metal icon is not soooooo easy...

    Visiting Worms

    Glas vom Fischerwääder Frühschoppe

A business trip to the small but beautiful city of Worms (Germany) offered a visit to Worms' Backfischfest. A few glasses of tasty wine at the Fischerwääder Kerb and some wonderful music made this evening naturelich enjoyable.
